7 Dead, 12 Injured in 2 Car Bombings
Two car bombs exploded in the western Algerian town of Tlemcen, killing seven people and wounding 12, Algerian security services said. News reports said the bombs exploded before dawn in the town about 250 miles west of the capital, Algiers. The attacks, less than two weeks before parliamentary elections, followed a car bomb Thursday that killed 15 people in Boufarik, south of Algiers. Muslim guerrillas have carried out many bomb attacks since they launched an armed campaign against the Algerian government in 1992 in retaliation for the cancellation of general elections that the Islamic Salvation Front was poised to win.
