This spring I was in Argentina touring Mendoza during the wine harvest. One afternoon at lunch I had one of the best Sauvignon Blancs I’ve ever had, the 1996 Lurton made at Escorihuela winery in Mendoza. South American white wines have not been real distinguished so far; they tend to be kind of tired, like old-style Italian whites. But this wine was very fresh, very vibrant, very pristine. It really stood out.
