Calabasas Falls Behind Early in Playoff Loss to San Luis Obispo
Ben Carey had 10 strikeouts and hit an inside-the-park home run to lead San Luis Obispo High to a 7-2 victory over Calabasas in a Southern Section Division IV baseball quarterfinal Friday at San Luis Obispo.
Carey (12-2) and Matt Sagoian (7-1) of Calabasas each went the distance. Sagoian had three strikeouts and allowed eight hits. Carey allowed seven hits.
Ryan Coleman had a run-scoring single in the fourth inning for Calabasas (26-3) after San Luis Obispo (21-7) had taken a 5-0 lead. Calabasas’ Rich Stockton had a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Carey’s homer capped a three-run third inning. Doug Morales had a two-run double in the first inning and Joe Diefenderfer had a two-run single in the sixth.
Christian Center Academy 10, Viewpoint 6--The unseeded Patriots (17-6) squandered a 6-4, fifth-inning lead in a Division VI quarterfinal at Veterans Park in San Bernardino.
Third-seeded Christian Center Academy (14-8) parlayed five hits, a walk and an error into five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Chaney Sheffield (7-3), who pitched two innings of relief, took the loss.
