School’s Open House Is Old-Fashioned Fun
Parents and students at Lexington Junior High’s annual open house got a glimpse of life in Renaissance England.
Teachers and volunteers spent several weeks making costumes and building scenery to transform the Cypress school into Lexingtowne, 1590.
Staff members and teachers dressed as kings and queens, jesters and peasants. As parents toured the school, madrigal singers provided background music. Guests were also invited to take part in a maypole dance.
English teacher Joan Edwards, who helped to set up the event, said parents and students stayed all evening to enjoy the entertainment and play some of the games.
The event was such a success, officials said, that they hope to offer another themed open house next year focusing on American history from the first Thanksgiving through the Civil War.
