Local Players Drafted
Clark Parker, a Cal State Northridge senior second baseman who had only 47 at-bats, was drafted in the 40th round by the Detroit Tigers. Parker, a transfer who started at UC Santa Barbara for three years, batted .298 this season, mostly as a pinch-hitter and designated hitter. Not drafted was Northridge outfielder Jose Miranda, who batted .407 with 25 home runs and 90 runs batted in. Although Miranda displayed great power, his lack of speed and average arm apparently kept him from being drafted. Area players selected this week in baseball’s amateur draft.
