Oakley Buys Maker of Sports Face Shields
FOOTHILL RANCH — Oakley Inc. has acquired One Xcel Inc., a Massachusetts company that markets optically correct protective face shields used on sports helmets, the companies said Friday. Terms of the acquisition were not released.
In a news release, Oakley said it will consolidate One Xcel’s business in its new plant in Foothill Ranch. Oakley will continue to market the polycarbonate shields under the One Xcel name.
Oakley Chief Executive Officer Mike Parnell said the acquisition was designed to give the Foothill Ranch-based eye wear manufacturer “early entry into the largely untapped optical shield business” as well as to increase the company’s media exposure in sports-driven markets.
One Xcel was founded in 1995 by Edward Jarvis, whose son lost an eye after being injured during a high school basketball game. The optically correct shields are designed to provide protection for athletes without distorting their vision.
