Philadelphia and Detroit: There is a Difference!
Mike Downey asks how low can Philly go (June 4). Well, let’s see.
Unlike Detroit, our teams play their games in the city, not in the suburbs 30 miles away, so ancillary revenues from games involving the Phillies, Eagles, 76ers and Flyers support our community, not land developers and politicians. Unlike Detroit, we don’t riot and loot when our teams win a championship. And unlike Detroit, we don’t celebrate Halloween with serial arson. So I guess we can go a little lower.
Finally, those of us with roots in Philly can attest that we never boo blind children on an Easter egg hunt. Steal their eggs, yes, but never boo.
