Annual Block Party, Health Fair Planned

Ventura County Supervisor John K. Flynn and several county health, law enforcement and education agencies will be holding a Community Block Party and Health Fair on Saturday for residents of the unincorporated areas of Nyeland Acres, El Rio and Strickland Acres.
Sponsored by Flynn, Sheriff Larry Carpenter, the Rio Elementary School District board of trustees, the Ventura County Department of Health and the Landon Pediatric Foundation, the event will begin at 10 a.m. at Rio Plaza Elementary School, 600 Simon Way. Health screenings and information will be offered.
In addition to immunization, hearing and vision tests and tuberculosis screenings, the event, expected to be offered annually, will feature a crafts show, Summer Youth Employment Training registration, child identification, exhibits from the Sheriff’s Department’s bomb squad and SWAT team and a K-9 demonstration.
