Former Matador Downs JetHawks
Greg Shockey’s home run off Jason Bond with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning gave the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes a 5-4 victory over the Lancaster JetHawks Saturday night at Rancho Cucamonga.
The blast by Shockey, a former Cal State Northridge outfielder, came on a 1-1 pitch off Bond (0-5) with the bases empty after JetHawks pitchers had held the Quakes scoreless since the sixth inning. Rancho Cucamonga led, 4-1, after Ben Davis’ two-run double capped a three-run sixth inning against Lancaster starter Joe Victery. But in the top of the eighth, James Clifford tied it with a three-run homer.
Victery allowed only three hits in 5 2/3 innings, striking out six and walking five. Only one of the four runs against him were earned. Eric Newman (4-3) got the victory in relief.
The JetHawks are 33-36. Rancho Cucamonga is 37-32.
