85 Students Punished for Vandalism Rampage
Dozens of Mira Costa High School students are being punished for a vandalism rampage last week that caused about $5,000 damage to the campus, officials said Friday.
Eighty-five of the school’s 403 graduating students have been ordered to pay $50 apiece or perform 10 hours of community service. A senior breakfast was canceled and many of the students have been excluded from the senior picture. However, all were allowed to participate in Thursday’s graduation ceremonies.
Two students were arrested in connection with the June 13 incident, in which students released live chickens and crickets, dumped hay and manure, threw dead fish into the campus swimming pool and scrawled graffiti on classroom doors.
