Recall Drive Is the Wrong Course
Although I am among those who have solicited recall-petition signatures--as a defensive measure, in my case--I am also among the many who deem the whole idea of recall, in the absence of malfeasance, abominable.
Perhaps it is dangerous as well.
In my related contacts with strangers, many have expressed a “plague on both your houses” attitude, and a desire to get rid of the entire [Thousand Oaks] City Council. Given that nobody in this city’s history has gotten the over-50% vote required to survive a recall election, the virtual certainty is that it won’t happen in the one now being petitioned for.
So, if all three council members at risk appear on the ballot together, and all three are voted out of office, what happens to our city government? Obviously, paralysis. And it seems to be a very real possibility.
Are we shooting ourselves in the foot?
