Immigrants

Whenever I read an editorial such as yours (June 9) averring that illegal immigrants should be treated sympathetically, because after all “it is important to remember . . . they have come for jobs,” I fail to see how this can be used as a factor in their favor. They break our laws by breaching our sovereignty, then they take jobs away from citizens and through force of numbers drive down wages, which lowers the living standard of citizens. Don’t you see that the fact they want to take jobs here makes their case worse, not better?

If we are to excuse all illegals on the basis that they come for economic improvement, that opens the floodgates. Are there to be no limits? If not, then our environment and quality of life are surely doomed.
