Resort Warning
Regarding “Lying Low in Loreto” (June 8), here’s a caution to readers: The Eden Loreto Resort in Mexico overbooks.
During our visit Nov. 8 to 11, 1996, 21 Southern Californians were punted to other hotels in Loreto, 20 minutes away by bus. We were bused to the Hotel La Pinta, arrived at by a less-than-picturesque dirt road and being reminiscent of a concrete bunker.
The Canadians--who booked later than we and arrived after us, but were staying for one to two weeks--got the resort rooms. We were shuttled daily to Eden Loreto and back to Hotel La Pinta at night. We were finally able to check into Eden Loreto for one night.
Other cautions: Totally free alcohol makes for loud people. The nightly entertainment is lip-synched and also loud. The free equipment (snorkels and fins) is in limited supply.
