Man Kills Self, 3 Others, Police Say

A man shot his ex-girlfriend to death, then drove her body to her sister’s house, where he killed three more people and raped another, Marseilles, Ill., police said. Charles Smith hanged himself after raping a 13-year-old girl, police said. Smith, 53, shot Cindy Benson, 34, in her hometown of Joliet, then drove her body 36 miles to a home in Marseilles, a town of 5,500 people located about 70 miles southwest of Chicago. Smith went inside and fatally shot Benson’s sister, Jymme Murphy, 28; her husband, James, 27; and Benson’s daughter, Erica, 16, police said.
