Lee, O’Brien Score Key Goals as Splash Stops Losing Streak
The Splash stopped a two-game losing streak by defeating the Detroit Safari, 7-5, Saturday night in front of an announced crowd 6,873 at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
The teams started the fourth quarter tied, 5-5, but Thor Lee and John O’Brien scored for the Splash.
Splash midfielder Armando Valdivia had opened the scoring at 3 minutes 25 seconds of the first quarter. The Splash had a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and were up, 5-3, at the half.
Valdivia led eight Splash scorers with a goal and three assists.
Dale Ervine had a goal and two assists and rookie Matt West recorded his professional goal for the Splash.
The Splash improves to 2-2. The Safari falls to 0-5, its worst start in team history.
The Splash will face the Arizona Sandsharks at the Pond Wednesday opening a stretch during which the club plays three of its next four games at home.
