Firefighter Carries Woman From Burning Apartment
ANAHEIM — Firefighters rescued a 32-year-old woman from her burning apartment in a predawn blaze Sunday, authorities said.
Mai T. Huynh was discovered alone and disoriented in the hallway of the burning unit, said Anaheim Fire Department spokeswoman Tabby Cato.
“She was surrounded by smoke and had to be carried out over the shoulder of a firefighter,” Cato said.
The woman was treated and released at Western Medical Center-Anaheim.
Seventeen firefighters responded to the alarm at 5:17 a.m. and found smoke coming from one apartment in the five-unit complex in the 600 block of Bellevue Drive.
Huynh was home alone, Cato said, but firefighters noticed children’s toys and “conducted a really aggressive search for other occupants.”
The fire apparently started on a bed and spread quickly, damaging the hallway and the attic. It was extinguished in 10 minutes. No other units in the complex were affected.
Damage to the structure was estimated at $50,000, and $20,000 in contents were destroyed.
