Police Hunt for Roommate of Man Shot in Abdomen
HUNTINGTON BEACH — An argument that erupted between roommates Sunday ended with one man in the hospital with a gunshot wound and police in a house-to-house search for his roommate.
Police did not know the cause of the argument that started about 1:30 p.m. between roommates Justin L. McDonald, 22, and James Elliott, 31, a tattoo artist. But during the argument, McDonald allegedly got a handgun and fired at Elliott, hitting him once in the abdomen, Huntington Beach Police Lt. Bruce Kelly said.
McDonald fled from the apartment complex in the 17600 block of Roxanne Lane on foot, police said.
The gunshot victim was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where his condition was not disclosed.
Police cordoned off the neighborhood and also searched with the aid of a police dog. The search was called off about 5 p.m., Kelly said.
McDonald is described as white, 5 feet, 11 inches tall and 155 pounds. He has distinctive features with blue eyes, a shaved head and tattoos over his body. He also has a red mustache.
When last seen, he was wearing black pants and a gray shirt, police said.
Police are asking for the public’s help with any leads. Those with information can contact Det. Joe Consoli at (714) 536-5948.
