Authorities Search for Girl’s Attacker
Authorities are still searching for a man in his 40s who tried to rape an Oak Park girl near her home last month.
The 15-year-old girl was walking on a trail near Oak Canyon Park on July 6 when a man approached her from behind and asked her to join him, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Robert Sparks. When the girl refused, the man threw her to the ground and tried to remove her clothing, Sparks said.
The girl fought off her attacker and escaped.
Authorities described the man as white, 6 feet tall, 40 to 50 years old, with gray hair and mustache and a slender build. He was wearing a navy blue T-shirt and khaki-colored pants.
While deputies have followed up on many leads, none have led to a suspect. Investigators say the man may live in or work in the quiet, close-knit community of Oak Park.
Ventura County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to a conviction. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
Anyone with information is asked to call 494-TALK.
