Price Changes Roles for the Team’s Sake

Durell Price is not going to beat out Skip Hicks at tailback, and Keith Brown’s play near the end of last season indicated that the position of heir apparent is in good hands.

So, meet Durell Price, fullback.

“I had played fullback in 10th grade, so the position isn’t exactly new to me,” he said Saturday, the first day of two-a-day drills. “But this is all different.

“I had told all the recruiters [when he was a senior at Sylmar High] that if they were looking at me as a fullback, don’t waste my time,” Price said. “But after spring practice I had some long, deep thoughts. How would it help the team? And basically, I wanted to get on the field.”

Price adds the dimension of speed to the position, which has been manned for two seasons by Cheyane Caldwell and Craig Walendy, the incumbents.

“We’ll be adding some plays with him in mind,” Coach Bob Toledo said.
