Human Feet Discovered in Backyard
PALMDALE — Sheriff’s deputies made a gruesome discovery at an abandoned house Sunday--a pair of human feet jutting out of the ground.
A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said homicide detectives would begin unearthing the feet today. Authorities did not know whether a body is attached to the feet.
Deputies made the discovery after receiving a tip from an anonymous caller at about 11:30 a.m.
They found the appendages in the backyard of an abandoned house in the 38100 block of 15th Street East, said Deputy Carrie Stuart.
Apparently, the house has been vacant for some time, Stuart said. The sex, age or ethnicity of the putative victim was unknown, she said. She did not know why the feet were not dug up Sunday.
“I don’t know if they ran out of daylight, or couldn’t get someone from the coroner’s office out in time,” Stuart said.
A deputy was assigned to stand guard over the appendages all night, she said.
