Man’s Body Found off Freeway
SYLMAR — A man’s body was found Sunday morning sprawled on an embankment along the northbound lanes of the Golden State Freeway in Sylmar, police said. The victim was a Latino male believed to be about 25 years old, said Sgt. Gordon Wade of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division.
Police said a hitchhiker noticed the body lying face down about 20 feet from the top of the brush-covered embankment and contacted authorities on a call box about 8 a.m.
California Highway Patrol units closed the northbound truck lanes of the highway just north of the San Diego Freeway for several hours while LAPD homicide investigators went to work.
Police did not release the man’s identity. Investigators were unable to immediately establish a cause of death, Wade said.
