A man’s body was found Sunday morning sprawled on an embankment along the northbound lanes of the Golden State Freeway in Sylmar, police said. The victim was a Latino male believed to be about 25 years old, said Sgt. Gordon Wade of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division.

Police said a hitchhiker noticed the body lying face down about 20 feet from the top of the brush-covered embankment and contacted authorities on a call box about 8 a.m.

California Highway Patrol units closed the northbound truck lanes of the highway just north of the San Diego Freeway for several hours while LAPD homicide investigators went to work.
