Handgun Ban
Re “Atty. Gen. Files Brief Opposing Handgun Ban,” Aug. 16:
In filing a brief asking the courts to overturn West Hollywood’s ban on Saturday night specials, Atty. Gen. Dan Lungren has chosen to protect the interests of the National Rifle Assn. over those of California’s children and families. Once again Lungren has acted to protect his own political interests over those of the residents of over 30 California cities and counties that have moved to protect our streets and schools by banning Saturday night specials.
There has been a bipartisan abdication of leadership in confronting the epidemic of gun violence. While politicians in Sacramento have been paralyzed by political cowardice, local elected officials have taken strong action to protect our communities. If Lungren can’t be a part of the solution, he should not block the efforts of local officials.
