‘Who Will Control the Government?’

Last month, 27-year-old Todd McCormick was arrested in his rented Bel-Air mansion and charged with conspiring to sell 4,000 marijuana plants. Supporters say McCormick cultivated the marijuana to combat his pain from recurrent cancer and supplied it to others for medical use. Actor WOODY HARRELSON explains why he made bail for McCormick:

Does anyone else think it peculiar that we live in a society where our government does not stop companies from dumping toxic sludge into our rivers and oceans, encourages the spraying of 6 trillion tons of pesticides per year into our farmland, uses our tax dollars to subsidize cutting down ancient trees, has a history of subsidizing the growing of tobacco products that kill people every day and at the same time will put you in jail for using a plant that has been proved to help people who are in pain?

What is the point of going to the polls [and passing Proposition 215] when our vote is immediately thwarted by a government that insists it knows better? Can we really pretend we are living in a free society?

Drug enforcement officials have described the effect of smoking marijuana most frequently with one word: euphoria. God forbid that someone dying from cancer should get a little euphoria in their day.

This government has no problem controlling the governed. The question is: Who will control the government?
