Lasorda Field House Dedication to Be Sept. 7
A ceremony dedicating the Tommy Lasorda Jr. Field House will be held Sept. 7 at 4 p.m. for the public.
In June, the city agreed to rename the Casa Loma Field House when Jo and Tommy Lasorda--the former Los Angeles Dodger manager--donated $500,000 to maintain the gymnasium.
The Lasordas, who live in Fullerton, chose to give the money raised through the Tommy Lasorda Jr. Memorial Foundation because of their long relationship with the Yorba Linda Friends Church, whose pastor is a former Dodger.
Since their son died in 1991 at the age of 33, the Lasordas have wanted to build a recreational center in his memory. Originally, they wanted to build it on the grounds of the Yorba Linda Friends Church. When that plan fell through, the foundation contacted the city.
As part of the agreement, the Lasorda Foundation will be able to use the gym, at 4701 Casa Loma Ave., three days a year for youth activities. The foundation also has agreed to exhibit some of the Dodger manager’s baseball memorabilia.
