Frank M. Vargas; World War II Veteran
Frank M. Vargas, a Navy veteran and a 70-year resident of Ventura County, died in his sleep Friday. He was 72.
Vargas was born Aug. 5, 1925, in the Central California town of Firebaugh. He was raised in Ojai and was a longtime resident of Camarillo, working as an electronics technician at the Point Mugu base for 32 years.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Vargas was a manager of the Road Runner youth football league and the Pleasant Valley baseball, softball and basketball leagues for 18 years.
He was a member of American Legion Post 741 in Camarillo.
Vargas is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jeanine, of Camarillo; son David of San Jose; daughters Karen of Klamath Falls, Ore., Dana of Camarillo, and Lisa Morris and her husband, Ted, of San Jose; sisters Marianna Trammell of Midland, Tex., and Flora Wiersma of Santa Rosa; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Islands, Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, Camarillo. A chapel service will follow.
Donations may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
Arrangements are under Conejo Mountain Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Camarillo.
