Deliberating Delayed in Symington Case
Deliberations in Gov. Fife Symington’s federal fraud trial were delayed while the judge and attorneys met behind closed doors to discuss “security matters.” U.S. District Judge Roger Strand did not immediately rule on a request by media organizations to release transcripts of more than three hours of private meetings in his chambers. “The essence of the proceedings this morning involved security matters,” Strand said after meeting with attorneys for nearly 2 1/2 hours. He refused to elaborate. Jurors resumed deliberations after the afternoon meeting.
