EVIDENTIARY
I appreciated Don Shirley’s column in which he shed some light on the reasons for the Evidence Room’s lease termination at the hands of Culver City landlords and art patrons Frederick and Laurie Smith (Theater Notes, Dec. 14).
The Evidence Room built a theater from scratch in an undeveloped area in a run-down building, played to full houses and balanced its books within three years.
In Shirley’s column, the Smiths complain about our work, our audiences and our board, three subjects that they don’t know anything about. If they want our theater out in order to get a lot more rent money for their building, they should just say so.
