Stewart Leads Chaminade in Hawaii
Justin Stewart of Chaminade High had 18 points and 13 rebounds to help the Eagles defeat Dixie (Ky.), 46-27, in a semifinal game of the St. Louis (Hawaii) boys’ basketball tournament Monday.
Chaminade (9-1), which was scheduled to play La Habra Sonora for the tournament title at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, broke the game open in the fourth quarter after Dixie (7-4) stalled for a seven-minute stretch during the second quarter.
Stewart, a 6-foot-2 senior forward, scored 14 consecutive points for Chaminade in the second half.
He scored the Eagles’ final basket in the third quarter to give them a 28-20 lead and followed that with 12 consecutive points to start the fourth quarter.
Many of Stewart’s points came off offensive rebounds.
Freshman Scott Borchart scored eight points for Chaminade and senior Scott Long had seven.
