Blackhawks Leave Devils Dazed, 6-2

On a night when goaltender Martin Brodeur went home before the game because of flu, the Chicago Blackhawks made his New Jersey Devil teammates look even sicker.

Eric Daze had two goals and an assist in a four-goal second period, and the Blackhawks enjoyed their biggest offensive show this season with a 6-2 win Tuesday night over the Devils at East Rutherford, N.J.

“Maybe they were tired,” Daze said after the Blackhawks had won their third consecutive game. “They played last night. We’re playing very solid hockey right now. We came ready to play. We’re a little bit surprised by the six goals.”

The six goals and 37 shots against Mike Dunham were also the most against New Jersey this season, and the four-goal margin of defeat was the largest.

Florida 2, San Jose 2--Ray Whitney scored two goals, but it wasn’t enough to end Florida’s home ice woes at Miami.

Florida was trying to end a three-game losing streak at home, but San Jose got the tying goal from Stephane Matteau early in the third period.

Philadelphia 3, Edmonton 1--John LeClair scored two goals at Edmonton as the Flyers continued their domination of the slumping Oilers.

The victory was Philadelphia’s fourth in a row over Edmonton, which has not beaten the Flyers since Dec. 27, 1995. The Oilers are winless in six games, including their last four at home.
