Latino Advocacy Group Seeks Award Nominees
El Concilio del Condado de Ventura is accepting nominations for its ninth annual Latino Leadership Awards.
Past recipients have earned the distinction by demonstrating a commitment to volunteerism and to enriching the county’s Latino community.
Yvonne Gutierrez, spokeswoman for the Oxnard-based Latino advocacy group, said the awards are aimed at making role models of the recipients.
“Our goal in this event is to nurture leadership in the community,” she said, “and to encourage other people to participate in this type of volunteer activity.”
Nominations are open to the public and include the following award categories: youth (up to 22 years old); business and labor; cultural arts; education; community service; and health.
The board of directors will select the award recipients.
Nominees must reside in Ventura County and cannot serve on El Concilio’s board of directors or be employed by the organization.
Forms are available at El Concilio, 400 S. B St., Oxnard. The submission deadline is Oct. 7. Awards will be presented during a Jan. 31 dinner ceremony at the Mandalay Beach Resort in Oxnard.
