Q: What site on Earth has the most earthquakes?

A: According to Craig Brunstein of the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver, no single site qualifies for the honor. Rather, the highest number of earthquakes occur all around the rim of the Pacific Ocean in the so-called ring of fire, where the movement of tectonic plates is the greatest. That ring includes California and all of the West Coast of North and South America, Alaska, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea and New Zealand. This area has not only the largest number of quakes, but also the most severe ones. It also is the site of most of the world’s active volcanoes, hence the name. In the United States, Alaska has the most quakes, but California, because it is more highly populated, has the most damaging and most costly quakes.
