George H. Zaback; Head of Apartment Assn. of L.A. County

George H. Zaback, 100, who headed the Apartment Assn. of Los Angeles County Inc. Born in Hartford, Conn., Zaback moved to Hollywood with his family when he was a child. After graduation from Hollywood High School and USC, he served in the Navy during World War I. He was post commander of the American Legion and chaired the organization’s national convention in Hollywood in 1936. Zaback managed properties for Security First National Bank for 20 years and then became an insurance broker and placement manager. He also began investing in apartment buildings, and became active in the apartment association, which campaigned for property tax and other issues on behalf of building owners. He chaired the association’s board of governors and was president of the group in 1953 and 1954. In 1952, he chaired the convention of the California State Apartment Assn. in Los Angeles. Zaback also served on the Housing Advisory and Appeal Board for the Los Angeles city Building and Safety Commission. On Friday in Hollywood.
