Cigarette Tax
Regarding your Oct. 17 article on the three groups attempting to place a higher tax on cigarettes: I would like to commend them. The percentage of the tax going toward after-school programs would definitely benefit students. However, these groups appear to have forgotten their real purpose. The decline of smokers should be their main priority. What about the health of the community? The revenues for these programs would be less if the number of smokers decreases, but there are other methods for funding.
