Fosse Awards Announced

Winners of the fourth annual Bob Fosse Awards, honoring choreographic excellence in the entertainment industry, were announced Sunday at a gala benefit dinner and celebration at the Palace in Hollywood. Proceeds of the event supported Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Inner City Games plus the Michael Peters and Bob Fosse scholarship programs.

The awards, in five major categories, focus on choreography for the mass media, though nearly all the winners also have extensive credits in concert dance, Broadway musicals, rock shows and other types of performance. The winners are:

Motion Pictures: Graciela Daniele for “Everyone Says I Love You.”

Music Video: Michael Jackson, Travis Payne, LaVelle Smith and Barry Lather for “Ghost.”

Variety or TV Special: Kenny Ortega and Judy Chabola for “The 1996 Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies.”

Episodic Television: Toni Basil for “Pearl.”

Commercials: Michael Rooney for Wyndam Hotels.

Special Awards: Herbert Ross (career achievement), Debra Brown (innovator award), Pat Jackson (educator award) and Vincent Paterson (board of governors award).
