Field Set for ’98 Shootout
Anchorage native Trajan Langdon will begin his last year in a Duke uniform in front of a hometown crowd with the No. 3 Blue Devils headlining next year’s Great Alaska Shootout field.
No. 12 Fresno State, Notre Dame, Southern Utah, Cincinnati, Iowa State and St. Mary’s also will join host Alaska Anchorage in the 21st annual Thanksgiving weekend tournament.
This year’s tournament, which began Wednesday, includes three nationally ranked teams: No. 4 North Carolina, No. 6 Purdue and No. 7 UCLA.
Langdon is a 1994 East High graduate. He missed a chance to appear before a hometown crowd in 1995, when Duke swept through the Shootout while he was sidelined with a knee injury.
An NCAA rule limiting Shootout appearances to once every 12 years was changed last year, allowing Duke to return to the tournament.
