The Contenders
The DanceWest program includes the following works:
Friday
“Confrontation,” Hae Kyung Lee & Dancers, a rumination on inner conflict.
“Sleep (making peace with the angels),” Pat Graney Company, an examination of the dream state, with a contribution from ceramic artist Marilyn Lysohir.
“Windscape,” Oguri, an examination of what the choreographer calls an uncontrollable element.
“Quatre” (Four), Diavolo Dance Theater, a revision of Heim’s signature piece “The Cage.”
Saturday
“Force Fields,” Malashock Dance & Company, with fight choreographer-guest performer James Newcomb, combines combat and dance.
“Maria The Storm Cloud,” 33 Fainting Spells, on themes of hypochondria and lost love.
“Night,” Nancy Karp + Dancers, a revision of a much acclaimed longer piece, “Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass).”
“The Maverick Strain,” Joe Goode Performance Group, on the renegade impulse embraced and attacked in American culture.
