Intel to Buy Computer Component Maker
IRVINE — Intel Corp. said Tuesday it has agreed to buy Irvine-based Corollary Inc., a closely held computer components maker.
Intel didn’t say how much it will pay for Corollary, which makes components for high-powered Intel-based servers. Corollary will retain its name, and George White will continue as president.
Santa Clara-based Intel also said it has acquired a 5% stake in Canada’s MGI Software Corp., a maker of imaging software.
Intel, the maker of Pentium processors that have more than 80% of the market, has taken equity stakes in several high-technology ventures. These include investments in data broadcasting technology developer WavePhone Inc. and Avid Technology Inc., the leading professional video-editing software.
