Espen Knutsen, a rookie from Norway, said he will be content to move off the top line once Kariya is signed. For now, he’s expected to join center Steve Rucchin and right wing Teemu Selanne for the opener Friday against Vancouver in Tokyo.

“I heard when I signed with the Ducks that I would be playing on the second line with Tomas Sandstrom,” Knutsen said. “I knew they wouldn’t break up the top line.”

Friday’s game will be shown in Norway on a three-hour delay.

“It’s the first NHL game in history to be shown in Norway,” Knutsen said.
