Second March Against Violence to Be Held
Church officials have organized a second community march through the Oakwood neighborhood to call for an end to violence that claimed seven lives between June and August.
The march, which begins Sunday at 1:30 p.m., will progress from the New Bethel Baptist Church at 503 Brooks Ave. to the Oakwood Recreation Center about a half-mile away, said New Bethel minister Robert Shipp.
He said the march and comments from speakers afterward will focus on the need for employment opportunities for Venice youth.
Organizers estimated that more than 300 people attended a similar march on Sept. 14.
“This is something we can’t let up on,” Shipp said. “The message we want to get out is that this is affecting all communities all around Los Angeles.”
