William Hartman; Sexuality Center Founder
William Hartman, 78, founder of a Long Beach-based center to study human sexuality. Hartman, a respected sex therapist, taught sociology at Cal State Long Beach from 1950 until his retirement in 1980. In 1968, he founded the Center for Marital and Sexual Studies to examine the nature of human sexual orgasm. With his research associate Marilyn Fithian, he wrote a book in 1985, “Any Man Can,” based on their case studies. The two also conducted extensive studies of the changing practices and attitudes of nudists throughout the United States. The center closed in 1984. On Saturday in Long Beach.
