Man Shot to Death in Driveway
PACOIMA — A 31-year-old man was shot to death Friday night as he pulled into his driveway in the 13400 block of Brownell Street, police said Saturday.
Antonio Contreras had just opened a security gate and was getting back into his car when he was fired upon, said Det. Lindy Gligorijevic of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division.
Family members inside the house heard five to 10 gunshots and ran outside, where they discovered Contreras in the driveway, Gligorijevic said. He died at the scene at 8:20 p.m.
Witnesses told police they saw a Datsun Z-class sports car with tinted windows and chrome wheels leaving after the shooting, Gligorijevic said.
“At this point we don’t have any suspects, and we don’t have a motive,” Gligorijevic said.
Investigators said it was unclear whether Friday’s attack was related to a similar shooting Thursday night in which Leticia Morales-Carranza was gunned down in her driveway on Vanscoy Avenue in Sun Valley as her three children looked on.
“We don’t know if they are related,” Gligorijevic said. “We are following many different leads.”
In a separate attack Friday night, a man was shot to death in North Hollywood, police said Saturday.
The victim’s identity was being withheld pending notification of family members, said Officer Dave Tyson of the LAPD’s North Hollywood Division.
Police responded to a report of shots fired at the intersection of Farmdale Avenue and Sherman Way, Tyson said. When officers arrived, they found the man lying in the street with a single gunshot wound.
The man later died at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, Tyson said.
Police knew of no motive for the slaying, which remained under investigation Saturday, Tyson said.
