Gatzke Lifts Saddleback to Water Polo Title
Jayson Gatzke scored the tying and winning goals with less than five minutes to play as sixth-ranked Saddleback edged fourth-ranked Chaffey, 7-5, in the championship game of the Saddleback Invitational water polo tournament Saturday at Saddleback College.
Gatzke’s goals came less than one minute apart, giving Saddleback (22-5) a 6-5 lead with 4 minutes 5 seconds remaining. Jim Bray scored at the buzzer to give the Gauchos a two-goal victory.
Gatzke scored three goals to lead the Gauchos. Jim Drysol, Brian Weathersby, Todd Valentine and Bray each scored one.
Saddleback’s Carlos Gonzalez had 13 saves. Chaffey is 22-8.
In the semifinals, Chris Carnahan scored four goals and Drysol had three to lead Saddleback to an 11-9 victory over Grossmont.
