Her Regimen Works Kind of Like Magic
Ever wish that you could just wave a magic wand and--poof!--you wouldn’t have to work out or diet? Even witches have to work at it. Melissa Joan Hart does as “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch” (ABC). Hart, 21, does put the whammy on skin problems, though.
“Tea tree [oil] I use all the time, like if I get zits or for my scalp if I’ve had a rough week with blow dryers.”

Question: Any other potions?
Answer: I put tub tea--they’re like big tea bags--in the bath to relax and Ylang-ylang. I think it’s such a beautiful smell. I use it as perfume. And I put lavender on my pillow to sleep.

Q: What do you do for exercise?
A: Well, when I’m on “Sabrina,” I work some pretty crazy hours and 16 hours bouncing off the walls and being goofy takes a lot of energy. So during lunch I do yoga because it’s relaxing and it gives me the energy to get through the rest of the day. Then once a week I like to walk around Lake Hollywood and that’s like 3.2 miles. Also, I don’t know if you care about diet. . . .
*
Q: Definitely, I want you to talk about what you eat.
A: Well, right now I’m on this diet. I fluctuate between 105 and 110. I’m 5-2 so that’s a little heavy for my height.
*
Q: What do you want to weigh?
A: Between 100 and 105. I have big thighs. I was thinking about liposuction and all that, you know?
*
Q: Oh, don’t even start thinking about that stuff.
A: Of course you think it, but I would never do it. I’d rather have thighs and be womanly and shapely. I hear if you get liposuction the fat goes somewhere else. I’d rather have fat thighs than fat knees. But, you know, as of now I’m totally happy with my body and, you know, I’m on the cover of Details in my underwear.
*
Q: You didn’t hide your thighs, did you?
A: Nope. I’m trying to be more secure with myself and to take care of myself. I’ve got a boyfriend who’s been with me for 2 1/2 years. Just knowing that he likes me no matter what I look like is really cool.
*
Q: What’s this diet that you’re on?
A: It’s called Diet Designs, and they make your food and they bring it to you on the set. They make sure that I have all my vegetables and my calories counted and my protein. I’m trying to shrink my stomach because I eat a lot so I’m having small portions now. Like one day I had two little smoked turkey quesadillas or two little grilled cheese pizzas or chicken with a raspberry sauce. And I’m drinking more water and taking more vitamins.
*
Q: Then what would they give you for dinner?
A: Shrimp or baked chicken and a side of green beans or carrots or rice. I love most vegetables--zucchini, broccoli and cauliflower.
*
Q: What do you do about breakfast?
A: I’ve started having protein shakes during the week. And I’ll tell you, on weekends I sleep pretty late so I don’t even eat breakfast. By the time I wake up I’ll go to my mom’s house and have soup--crackers and tomato soup. Or there’s a place called Killer Shrimp in the Valley that has the best shrimp. I love shrimp. Clams are my absolute favorite. My dad owns a plant on Long Island where he purifies shellfish. Whenever I go there I have the cleanest clams, oysters, lobster.
*
Q: Does Sabrina work out?
A: Well, in our premiere episode she gets quite a workout from cleaning the whole bunk room with a toothbrush. Her finger is pointing at the toothbrush and wherever her finger goes, the toothbrush goes.
*
Q: Remember the good witch in “Wizard of Oz”?
A: Oh, yeah. Totally. Glinda in her pink bubble. Loved her.
*
Q: And, of course, “Bewitched.”
A: “Bewitched,” like wiggling her nose. That was quite a maneuver. I couldn’t do that.
