Tackaberry, OCC Shut Out Irvine Valley

Scott Tackaberry’s second-half goal gave Orange Coast a 1-0 victory over visiting Irvine Valley Tuesday in Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer.

Tackaberry, a former Newport Harbor High standout, scored the winner in the 66th minute. He was assisted by Nelson Coronado.

Carlos Loza had six saves in the shutout for Orange Coast (2-10-4, 2-5-1). Irvine Valley is 13-5-5, 4-2-2.

In another conference game:

Santa Ana 10, Cypress 0--Candido Lopez, Mario Martinez and Nick Purdom each scored two goals for Santa Ana (6-11, 6-2).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:

Cypress 9, Santa Ana 0--Cypress, ranked first in the state, remains undefeated with an 8-0-1 conference record.

Vedda Desatoff and Kerry Anderson each scored two goals in the shutout. Cypress is 16-1-2 overall.

Orange Coast 3, Irvine Valley 1--Malissa Thornhill scored two goals and Mary Peters added one for Orange Coast (13-2-3, 8-0-1). Nicole Trott scored the only goal for Irvine Valley (5-4-0 in conference). Jessica Barr made 20 saves.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s water polo:

Cypress 13, Santa Ana 7--Jim Wirthgen scored five goals for Cypress (11-15, 2-5). Cypress outscored Santa Ana, 5-0, in the third quarter.

Ryan Carroll had four goals for Santa Ana (5-18, 0-7).

Saddleback 14, Riverside 7--Jason Gatzky, Brian Weathersby and Todd Valentine scored three goals each and Carlos Gonzalez made 10 saves to help the Gauchos defeat host Riverside.

Tony Wade scored five goals for Riverside (15-9-2, 4-3). Saddleback is 23-5 (6-1).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s water polo:

Riverside 8, Saddleback 4--Carol Whalen scored two goals in a losing effort as the Gauchos fell to 8-10-1 (3-4). Riverside is 19-6-2, 6-1.
