Veres Is Back Where He Started
Ron Veres is back for a second go-around at Simi Valley in his circular journey.
Veres, 56, was Simi Valley’s coach from 1980-83 before leaving to become quarterbacks coach at Cal State Northridge in 1984. He became offensive coordinator at Oak Park High in 1985, took over as coach the following year, and went 17-6 before resigning days before the team’s opener in 1988 because of differences with administrators.
Veres landed at Cal Lutheran, where he became offensive coordinator for Bob Shoup. He remained there until last season, serving as defensive back coach from 1993-95.
A teacher at Simi Valley since 1980, Veres became offensive coordinator at the school last season and this year replaced Coach Roger McCamy, who has taken over as Simi Valley’s athletic director.
Scott Veres, Ron’s son and a former Oak Park baseball player, is offensive coordinator at Simi Valley and is an assistant baseball coach at Thousand Oaks, where he teaches.
“I think I bring organization and Scott brings patience with the kids,” Ron Veres said. “We’re a good, old-timer-youth combination.”
