King’s 4 Scores Spark Savanna Past Magnolia

ANAHEIM —  Running back Camron King scored four touchdowns and rushed for 169 yards in 15 carries, leading Savanna to a 35-24 upset over host Magnolia Thursday night in an Orange League game at Glover Stadium.

Savanna (5-3, 2-1) handed Magnolia, ranked 10th in Division V, its first loss of the season, dropping the Sentinels to 6-1-1, 2-1.

Savanna’s 34 points were the most scored against Magnolia this season. The Sentinels had outscored opponents, 206-82, going into Thursday’s game. Savanna, which rushed for 322 yards, scored on its first three possessions to take a 21-13 lead at the half.

After a 38-yard touchdown run by Jason Brown on the opening drive, King took over for Savanna, scoring its next four touchdowns on rushes of three, 48 and 32 yards and a 26-yard pass from quarterback Robin Dano.

Trailing, 28-19, with 4:57 left, Magnolia scored when Anthony Zaragoza completed a 13-yard pass to Asi Faoa. But the Sentinels missed their third extra point and trailed, 28-25. Zaragoza connected on only nine of 33 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns. He also was intercepted three times.

King sealed the victory for Savanna with 1:22 remaining when he scored his final touchdown of the night from 32 yards.
