Making Airport a Laughing Matter

South County residents haven’t found much to laugh about at the prospect of 747 jetliners flying over their homes to an airport at the El Toro Marine Air Corps base.

But with the speed of a one-liner, that could change.

Expect the airport satire to be flowing from the stage of the Improv comedy club in Irvine on Sept. 17 at a “Fun-Raiser” to benefit the anti-airport group Taxpayers for Responsible Planning.

“The idea is to wake people up,” said comedian Jeff Jena, a resident of Tustin who specializes in social and political satire and will lead the lampooning. “Maybe the way to wake them up is not to be so serious about it.”

Among the top 10 reasons why Jena says an airport would be a good fit at the Marine base: “Drown out those annoying birds singing.”

The dinner and show will be $50 per person. Information: 472-5414.
