ROME — Two people were killed and more than 10 were injured in a strong earthquake that shook central Italy early today, state media reported.
The National Geophysical Institute said the quake measured 5.5 and was centered close to the city of Foligno in the Umbria region.
The two dead, reportedly an elderly couple, were killed when their house in the mountain village of Collecurti collapsed. A number of other buildings in the area also caved in, and some people were believed to be buried in the rubble.
