Tropical Storm Olaf Hits Mexico
ACAPULCO, Mexico — Strong winds and heavy rain from tropical storm Olaf battered Mexico’s Pacific coast Saturday, closing ports and scattering boats.
The port of Acapulco was closed to small boats Saturday as Olaf moved slowly northward, officials said.
Media reports said the military and government officials were searching for three fishing vessels missing off the coast of Acapulco.
Early Saturday the storm was 90 miles to the south of Huatulco and was moving about 7 mph north to northeast, Mexico’s National Weather Service said.
Winds of 68 mph with gusts up to 87 mph were being measured.
The weather service warned that the storm could turn into a hurricane.
