OCC Women Show They’re Among Best
The Orange Coast women’s cross-country team established itself as one of the best in Southern California with its performance Saturday at the Golden Coast Invitational at Fairview Regional Park.
The Pirates took the took five scoring spots in the 19-team meet. Sophomore Donna Harris, who won the 5,000-meter race in 19 minutes 23 seconds, also is the defending Orange Empire Conference champion.
The next four from OCC were Christine Riel, Chihacu Kumagai, Araceli Martinez and Mara Caples.

Men’s soccer: The Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer season starts today with Santa Ana, the defending champion, hosting Riverside in a 4 p.m. game.
Cypress is at Irvine Valley and Fullerton is at Orange Coast with both contests at 4 p.m. Santa Ana and Irvine Valley are the early favorites for the championship.

Football poll: Bakersfield (3-0) took over the top spot in the Southland after top-ranked Palomar lost to Mt. San Antonio, 34-21, Saturday.
Cerritos (3-0) is second, Long Beach (3-0) third, Mt. San Antonio (3-0) fourth, Los Angeles Valley (2-0) fifth, and Hancock (2-0) sixth. Palomar (1-1) fell to seventh and Saddleback (1-1), which lost to Cerritos, 14-13, dropped from third to eighth. San Bernardino Valley (2-1) is ninth and El Camino (1-2) 10th.
